Fighting Men
03:15
|
|||
Fighting men who have suffered for freedom
Who somehow could sing
With their throats bleeding dry
Who could stand unrelenting
While lesser men trembled
Who fought off the dogs for the glory of God
Fighting men
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who cannot be shamed
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who take all the blame
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who honor their names
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who take all the beatings
In spite of the pain... fighting men
Fighting men
Who have mothers and daughters
Their eyes cold like steel
When their sons are struck down
Who have crushed their emotions,
Keep watching the hillside
Their tears wet the dirt when we cry victory
Fighting men who have eyes like an eagle
Whose talons are swift
And his justice complete
He’ll rejoice in the spoils,
Still eager for sunrise
The empire rises on back of his deeds
Fighting men
Who need no one to guide them,
Whose vision of God is the sword
And the flame
Who will sacrifice life
And take nothing for granted
Unmoving as mountains is their loyalty
Fighting men
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who cannot be shamed
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who take all the blame
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who honor their names
(Fighting men, fighting men)
Who capture their freedom
In spite of the pain... fighting men

Desert Rose
01:20
|
|||
The rose in the desert blooms at night,
Though the sand and the soil is cold
On the moonlit steppes it has no regrets,
And its feat of genius goes unrepeated,
Wilting before it is old
The crystal gem in the sand does send
A direction to all who see:
What is bright and clear,
In the night, makes fear
Seem a lifted shroud or a passing cloud:
Live but once in beauty and peace
Peace, peace, peace

Festival Showcase
05:51
|
|||
A snake in the arid desert
Wishes you no harm
He wants only crystal water
You must not be alarmed
Though looks might fool you into thinking
He has desire to kill
A petty victim of circumstances,
Reduced to an iron-clad will
So Dance!
Dance!
Dance!
And pray!
What fools are we to think that
We decide when we die,
Like flies in the ointment of fate,
With God’s will we survive
Though looks might fool you into thinking
He has desire to kill
A petty victim of circumstances,
Reduced to an iron-clad will
Just dance!
Dance!
You must dance
And pray!
Hail to our conquering leader
King and our friend
Justinian is a warrior
Ruler of men

The Ballad Of Nasreen
02:57
|
|||
The rain begins to fall, my breathing’s stopped
And all my power’s fading
The birds begin to call, the stormclouds clear
Like sunrise has been waiting
I’m hoping you can help me find
What it takes to keep my mind out of trouble
The mountains strong
Against the ocean’s tide
My vision’s clear now with you here,
And I finally see the door into heaven,
Time for me to turn the key
And put my pride aside
We’re walking side by side, I’ve turned my
Back to the foolishness behind me
The answer’s in your eyes,
I see a friend with the wisdom to remind me
I’m hoping you can be the one
To help me to become something better
And when I struggle who could be my guide
Someone strong I could stand beside
And open wide the door into heaven,
Time for me to turn the key
And caress you from inside
The rain begins to fall, my breathing’s stopped
And all my power’s fading

AMPHION:
In 4 twelve Anno Domini
In E’Ran’s founding days,
The Shah held masquerades and fine parades
For men of noble blood
Lavish dancing, horses,
No expense was spared
But people stared in disbelief;
Those luxuries meant less to eat,
Fourteen days of riots and the flames
Taught well those men
When ends can justify your means,
A thirst for blood is what you need
Through the ages Fools and sages
Sing that same old song
It’s all the same in the end
NASREEN:
The chariot race this season past,
Where bloody riots loosed,
Citizens made pleas to spare their kinsmen
From the hangman’s noose
Through the night the city burned,
And prisoners ran free
Justinian wished to escape,
Before a sharp knife sealed his fate
Gold was paid to soldiers
Who would kill their friends for bread,
We purchased peace through treachery,
And blood which flowed from Roman heads
30,000 men were killed,
But nothing much was learned
It’s all the same in the end
BOTH:
When Sassanids come from the East
To meet in Roman lands,
While talking peace,
Their minds are scheming,
Those who think are unbelieving
Festivals and pageantry
Can’t hide the bloody deeds,
Justinian does not want peace,
His sword is restless in its sheath
Khosrow, knowing that he’ll pay,
Extorted riches more
But lovers meet who see the madness,
Stop this age of endless sadness
Strength I’ll try to find to right the wrongs
This world has made
Yet it’s all the same in the end

Protest Song
02:36
|
|||
Your light is the vanishing twilight
Your passion the well running dry
Your fear is the fear of an angel
Who’s taken for granted immortality
Your light is a blistering sunset
Your bane is the truth bare and frail
My teeth are sharp as an adder’s
These fangs are my freedom
Their aim cannot fail
My light is a vine that is creeping
My place is the cracks in between
My history, fierce and unpleasant
There is no peace treaty to erase the deeds
He claims to be immortal
But his infamy will die
These men only worship
What gold pieces buy
When my corpse lays in the street
Covered by flies
Who’ll be there to measure
The cost of your lies?
Your feast is the feast of the devil
Your pleasures are cruelty and greed
You come here to sneer and retort
Knowing Constantinople
Must pay you with heed.
Who came here to spoil and taint
Our fair land?
What selfish aims they whisper
While they’re making their plans
No blade can purge the vengeance
Contained in my hands
The breadth of my justice
Unmeasured by man

Wretched Soul
04:58
|
|||
THEODORA:
I can see from your face
You’re trapped by decisions you’ve made
It’s becoming too late
Your soul is forfeit in this race
Just weeks ago, peace was a dream
Now we’re here
And you’re letting bar-barity win
The music that Amphion brings is a
Glimpse of a world without failing or sin
She’s all that I have to give hope
To this wretched soul
When I’m left second-guessing myself,
My voice is not loud enough to drown
Out the resounding refrain of my failures
My fears, the one’s who I’ve lost,
The friends who I’ve left behind,
When my charms do not charm enough
As I struggle and fight through the darkness
I wander adrift, her life is a gift
I cannot choose doom
Won’t give up the promise I’ve made
She spit in his face
Abandoned herself to the grave
Justinian’s vision is clear
He delivers prosperity if we comply
The stakes for me aren’t merely strife
But to give up my friend or give up my life!
NARSES:
He’s all that I have to give hope to
This wretched soul
When I’m left second guessing myself,
My voice is not loud enough to drown
Out the resounding refrain of my failures
My fears
The one’s who I’ve lost,
The friends who I’ve left behind,
When my wits are not fast enough
As I struggle and fight through the darkness
I wander adrift, his life is a gift
BOTH:
Don’t be a coward
Use your head
We must let reason guide us
Or more end up dead
You’re just like her/him, rebellious and cruel
Allowing yourself to be led by a fool
She/He’s all that I have to give hope
To this wretched soul
When I’m left second guessing myself,
My voice is not loud enough to drown
Out the resounding refrain
Of my failures my fears
NARSES / THEODORA:
The one’s who I’ve lost / The friends who I’ve left behind
BOTH
When my best is not good enough
As I struggle and fight through the darkness
I wander adrift, his/her life is a gift

Cup & Ball
04:34
|
|||
Under the branches of Eden
Wrapped up in secrets, shrouded in time
My heart was wasting away
a rose in the garden swallowed by vines
One touch brought life to the thirsty
Drought cannot hurt me, sheltered in love
Burning with anticipation
I’ll wait until stormbreak: rain from above
Through all the years of lonely waiting
My ship was lost in the storm
No time now for hesitating
I’ve come to the shore
I’m tired of being used,
You please me baby,
You please me, please me
Our love is pure devotion
It’s something I need,
I gotta fire to feed yeah,
And our hearts will burn together
We’ll find each other by starlight
Running past midnight,
Your hand against mine,
Art of the hungry and weary,
No one is there to see
Our bodies entwined
One touch, one kiss
Melting resistance
Two hearts, one soul,
Past all control
Break free from the chains that bind us
And build a world of our own
It’s time to put the past behind us
And face the unknown
I’m tired of being used,
You please me baby,
You please me, please me
I can’t stop this rain of emotion
It’s something I need
I gotta fire to feed yeah,
And our hearts will burn forever

In Blood
04:03
|
|||
This slime, has a lesson to learn
It’s time, for this city to burn
I’ll stop her before she returns to the stage
And I’ll leave her to drown
In blood!
He’ll take revenge
(In blood!)
He’ll drink his fill
(Of blood!)
And her songs will die
(In blood!)
And the blood will spill
They wish, to have peace evermore
I’ll fight, to settle the score
I’ll start a new war
To reclaim what she’s taken
And cover the page
In blood!
I’ll take revenge
(In blood!)
I’ll drink my fill
(Of blood!)
And her songs will die
(In blood!)
And the blood will spill...
I’ll write, a new treaty and sign
Her life, a condition of mine
She’ll pay for his crimes
And when justice prevails she’ll
Surrender to fate
In blood!
You’ll take revenge
(In blood!)
You’ll drink your fill
(Of blood!)
And her songs will die
(In blood!)
And the blood will spill...
